Downtown Flooring Co. Ltd is committed to educating our sales associates and clients to identify products that are less harmful to the environment. We trust this product awareness will lead to better environmental choices. We have aligned our firm with some of the world’s leaders in the manufacturing and distribution of "Green Products". Downtown Flooring Co. Ltd offers products that qualify for the ( LEED ) Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design program.

We now offer new carpet that is manufactured from recycled carpet ( keeping it out of the landfill for ever ) as well as biodegradable carpet.

We offer carpet made from recycled plastic bottles to hardwood products that use up to 25 times less wood then a traditional ¾ solid wood floor.

Here are some basics "eco-friendly" facts for some of the products we offer. Downtown Flooring Co. Ltd proudly supports Habitat for Humanity with products that are "reusable and transferable".

Hardwood

• The "Forest Steward Council" ( FSC) that certifies lumber by tracking it from its origin to its final application. All FSC wood is part of the "Forest Management Program" that helps to protect the environment.
• Some solid ¾ hardwood products are made from recycled pieces of wood leftover from the regular wood production.
• Recycling items such as old "whiskey barrels" into new wood flooring is one example of a good environmental choice.
• Engineered hardwood products ( man made ) are great for the environment as they only use hardwood on the top layer. The core is made of fibre board or recycled wood by products.
• Depending on the thickness of the top layer you will use 5 - 25 times less wood then regular ¾ solid hardwood.
• Some of these engineered products are reusable, repairable and transferable from one area to another.

Laminate

• Engineered from renewable wood fibre, environmentally friendly resin and paper.
• Some products have no harmful formaldehyde emissions and can even be recycled (burned) as fuel.
• Premium qualities are long lasting, wear resistant and will not have to be replaced as often.
• This product is easy to clean and maintain adding some health benefits.
• Some of these products are reusable, repairable and transferable from one area to another.
• Some of the laminates and engineered hardwood will be installed over underlays made from recycled car tires or renewable cork.

Carpet

• Many different natural fibres ( biodegradable ) are used to make carpet such as wool, sisal, bamboo and sea grass.
• Some synthetic fibres are made from recycled plastic bottles. One out of four plastic bottles in the US are recycled into carpet fibre.
• Recycling old carpet (keeping it out of the landfill sites) has become the priority of many fibre and carpet manufactures.
• The technology is being used today to produce new carpet manufactured from carpet that was headed to the landfill.
• Some manufactures use up to 50% recycled carpet fibres in the production of their products.
• We also promote the use of underpad manufactured from recycled products such as old car tires and foam pieces leftover from the furniture and auto industry.

Cork

• Is renewable resource harvested every 9 years from the bark of the Cork Oak Tree.
• The cork tree is not harmed during this process and lives up to 200 years.
• This product is naturally anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic making it a healthy choice.
• Engineered products use less natural cork in there production.
• Some of these products are reusable, repairable and transferable from one area to another.

Bamboo

• Is a grass that is harvested over and over from the same root stalk.
• Bamboo regenerates very fast and is harvested every 4 - 6 years.
• This product is renewable, recyclable and biodegradable.
• Engineered products use less natural bamboo in there production.
• Some of these products are reusable, repairable and transferable from one area to another.

Linoleum

• Is a natural product made from abundantly available raw materials such as linseed oil, wood flour and natural resins.
• It is unique as it contains both recycled and renewable materials.
• This floor is very durable and will last for decades if maintained properly.
• This product is also antibacterial and hypoallergenic adding health benefits.
• Engineered products use less natural linoleum in there production.
• Some of these products are reusable, repairable and transferable from one area to another.
